Challenges

KOCO Star entered the market with several foundational challenges:

  1. Highly competitive landscape –  The edutech space for K–12 learning, particularly video-based platforms, was already dominated by established players such as Ruangguru, Zenius, Kelas Pintar, Pahamify, and Quipper, making differentiation difficult for a new entrant.
  2. Zero brand awareness – While KOCO was previously recognized for KOCO School (a teacher-focused platform), KOCO Star was a completely new student-facing product with no existing brand equity or awareness to build upon.
  3. Low conversion efficiency – Early acquisition efforts through YouTube and social media struggled to drive meaningful results, converting less than 10% of traffic into sign-ups, signaling a weak funnel and limited resonance with the target audience.

Approach

The core of our strategy centered on making learning accessible, lightweight, and aligned with how students were actually learning in a post-COVID world.

Accessible Learning as the Entry Point (Primary Growth Lever)

  • Identified a major post-pandemic opportunity where students were actively searching for online learning support but often faced bandwidth and device limitations.

  • Instead of competing in high-production video content like major edutech players as the first funnel, I was focused on  repositioned KOCO Star around low-barrier, offline-friendly learning formats. 

SEO-Driven Learning Ecosystem

  • Built a curriculum-aligned SEO content engine designed to capture active demand from students searching for academic topics -> Producing 180 SEO optimized articles each month 

  • Structured each article as a rich learning experience rather than a simple blog post.

This included:

  1. Downloadable topic summaries
    → allowing students to print or save materials and continue learning offline.

  2. Offline-ready quizzes
    → enabling students to practice without relying on consistent connectivity.

Outcome-Driven Content Experience

  • The SEO ecosystem became KOCO Star’s primary acquisition engine, enabling students to discover the platform organically.

  • By delivering value first — through accessible, offline-friendly content — we created a seamless path from search → learning → sign-up.

Impact

  • Grew KOCO Star’s organic traffic by over 5,800% in 10 months, turning SEO into a major growth driver.
  • Improved the organic sign-up funnel, increasing conversions by 2,112%.
  • Ranked 3,400 keywords on the first page, making KOCO Star highly discoverable for K–12 topics.
  • Built a library of 437 content pieces that students could learn from anytime.
